A description of our safety procedures, a few of which briefed hereunder, has been detailed in our Health, Safety, and Environment Management System – Procedures Guidebook
PPE
VIP recognizes the importance of the use of correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help employees carry out their work in a healthy and safe manner.
VIP will provide the relevant protective equipment necessary for the safe operation of its business. It is the company policy that all employees will ensure the use of appropriate protection and safety equipment.
The requirement of PPE which is mandatory for every employee to wear is to ensure the greatest possible protection for employees visiting/working in VIP Fields.
It is the responsibility of the employee to report any items in need of repair or replacement to the safety officer or Warehouse Manager.
Permit To Work
PTW, as a part of documentation of the HSE Procedure, forms a core theme of continual assessment and continual improvement of VIP Health, Safety, and Environment Management System
Certain occasional activities on working areas present additional hazards over and above those present under normal working conditions.
The purposes of the permit are to:
- Ensure the staff and employee management are aware of and have “permitted” the activity.
- Ensure the risks of the activity have been assessed
- Ensure that control measures are in place
- Ensure that there is a named person responsible for supervising the activity until its completion
Examples of activities requiring a “Permit to Work” are:
- Driving at night
- Carrying non-company passengers in company vehicles
- Carrying and/or transporting bulk and oversized cargos
- Carrying and/or transporting Hazardous materials
- Repair and/or maintenance of a fuel storage container
- Welding and grinding in restricted and unauthorized areas
- Working in confined spaces
- Working at height
Lock-out and Tag-out
Lock-out and Tag-out Procedures are required whenever it is necessary to keep a system or piece of equipment de-activated for the purposes or inspection, repair or maintenance.
LOCK-OUT
Lock-out is the process of blocking the flow of energy from a power source to a piece of equipment and keeping it blocked out.
Whenever repair or maintenance work is required on equipment or distribution systems, a locking device must be fitted to ensure accidental activation cannot occur.
The locking device may be a padlock, a chain and lock, or other purpose built device made to cover or prevent movement of a switch, valve, lever, or tap etc.
Tags, as detailed below, should also be completed and attached by persons undertaking the work on the equipment/system to advise of the potential danger to personnel.
TAG-OUT
“Personal Danger” tags and “Out of Service” tags are attached to the source. The tag acts as a visible warning to prevent anyone restoring power or activating a system before it is safe to do so. Tags must clearly state “DO NOT OPERATE”
